CTO Secretary General Attends Virtual Uganda-UK Trade and Investment Convention 2021

The Secretary General Bernadette Lewis was a panellist at the 11th annual Uganda-UK Trade and Investment Convention 2021, which took place virtually on Saturday 11th September 2021. With the theme ‘Uganda’s Untapped Investment Potential’, The objectives of the Convention were to promote and facilitate international trade between Uganda and UK and to promote Ugandan exports and identify export opportunities.

The event featured discussion panels focussed on the Agribusiness, Healthcare and Real Estate & Finance Sectors.  The Secretary General participated in the healthcare panel discussion. After giving an overview of the work of the CTO she explained how information and communication technologies can be used as an enabler to improve health care delivery.

The SG spoke of the importance of patient health data, searchable databases and devices and the role of ICT in promotion of healthy lifestyles, the prevention of disease and the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Uganda has gone through a significant economic transformation and is a marketplace for global investment and commerce. The Secretary spoke to the need for creating a supportive environment for returning nationals of the diaspora to enable them to contribute to the development of Uganda.

The event featured a presentation by Her Excellency Right Honourable Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda and a line-up of other distinguished speakers including and The Right Honourable the Lord Popat, UK trade Envoy to Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda.

The meeting was organised with the support of the Department for International Trade (Kampala), Uganda Investment Authority and the Uganda High Commission, London, UK.
