The 7th annual e-Gov Forum of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation was held at the Speke Resort & Conference Centre, Uganda from 25th to 27th Macrh 2013. There were over 150 key decision makers in attendance, delivering the ministerial opening address, Hon Ruhakana Rugunda, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Republic of Uganda, applauded the CTO for organising events that enable close and regular sharing of experiences between industry and government practitioners.
“As the world gets more integrated, there is a growing demand for e-services as well as the highest standards of public service delivery,” he said, and for this to happen, “there is a need for administrative reform so as to establish an adequate, holistic, legal and regulatory framework”. Welcoming delegates to the event, Mr Godfrey Mutabazi, Executive Director, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), host of the event, stated “UCC is at the forefront of e-enabling Governance in Uganda which has made some impressive gains in recent times, including setting up a Government revenue management platform. We view e-Governance as a major step in ushering the Ugandan society into the ICT age.”
The CTO’s 7th e-Gov Forum brings together leading global e-Governance experts with policy makers, implementers and the private sector to examine various facets of effective e-Governance in an interactive setting, to help African stakeholders to identify ways to improve efficiency, effectiveness and transparency of governance through e-enabling.
