The course gives an overview of the basic principles of the most important 2.5G and 3G standards, with a focus on EDGE/UMTS, their advantages and limitations. Furthermore, it describes the path to enhance 3G/UMTS (3.5G) and introduces the most important 3.5G technical options. Finally, it outlines the basic principles, technical requirements and plans for 4G and long-term evolution (LTE).
